The School of Media & Communication offers undergraduate majors in Advertising, Broadcasting, Communication, Film, Journalism, Public Relations, and Visual Journalism & Photography. The School also houses two minors (Broadcasting and Journalism Writing) and five undergraduate certificates (Digital Advertising, Personal Branding, Sport Media & Communication, Strategic Communications, and Workplace Communication). The School’s Advertising, Broadcasting, Journalism, Public Relations, and Visual Journalism & Photography programs are accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC).
The School also houses a master’s degree in Organizational Communication and graduate certificates in Communicating in Organizations and Communicating in Healthcare (see The Graduate School’s Catalog for details on the School’s graduate programs).
The School fervently believes that a broad-based liberal arts and science curriculum is essential for a well-rounded understanding of society and that students and faculty should embrace a spirit of social awareness and service to diverse communities. As such, the School’s faculty encourage students to think critically, act ethically, and cultivate the ability to adapt intellectually and creatively to the opportunities and challenges of an increasingly complex information society.

BCOM 264 Digital Video Production and Distribution 3 Hours
Designed for non-Broadcasting majors, this course includes the basics needed to shoot, edit, and distribute video productions in the digital realm. Acquisition will concentrate on lighting, composition and audio for the digital world. Editing and graphics will be explored using non-linear programs, and distribution will focus on CDs, DVDs and web streaming.

Editing as a practical experience and as the final tool for the visual storyteller's message. Editing systems include Avid and Final Cut Pro. Work with original material in editing situations that incorporate computer graphics and 3-D animation. Study of, and practical experience in, single camera field acquisition. Techniques of lighting, audio, talent, and environment manipulation, as they apply to both film and video, are examined in the context of shooting for the edit.
